The manga tells the story of executioner siblings who live a life of "innocence" in Paris during the French Revolution in the 18th century. The protagonists are Charles-Henri Sanson, who led the beheading of King Louis XVI, and his sister Marie-Josephe. Publication of the story's sequel, Innocent Rouge, began in 2015 in Grand Jump. The works have been hailed by readers for their spectacular artwork that is often compared to paintings. Innocent Musicale, a stage production directed by Amon Miyamoto, was performed in 2019.
