ABOUT THE WORK

Marie-Josephe Sanson rests an executioner's sword on her shoulders. This artwork was created for the Dress Code: Are You Playing Fashion? exhibition held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. It is paired with a work of art depicting Marie Antoinette. The 18th-century clothing that Marie wears here was displayed in the museum at the same time.

Note the detailed embroidery that shines created with gold thread and pearls, as well as the three-dimensional effect. The contours are daringly flat and ornately outlined. Though the work is painted with feminine colors, it features grim motifs such as a guillotine, a chain, and a wheel represented in the Sanson family crest.

Clad in thorns with her arms outstretched and legs crossed, Marie's figure is reminiscent of a crucifixion painting.

Both man and woman. The roles of the executioner and the executed are reversed.

Marie glares at the viewer fearlessly amidst the blue roses that made the impossible possible.

It was also nominated for the 18th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize and placed 7th in the Manga Taisho Awards in 2015. LABEL

Real Color Collection (digital origin)

Never-before-seen color and detail

A collection featuring realistic colors that cannot be produced with the offset printing process used for comics and manga magazines. Available in two sizes, A2 (420 mm x 594 mm) and A1 (594 mm x 841 mm). This collection is printed on the 100% cotton velvet fine art paper used in museum collections.

The digital paintings are readjusted and added to by the artist using the original RGB data. This makes it possible to express colors beyond the realm of CYMY normally used in publication printing.

For the Real Color Collection label, we send these captured and adjusted images to a printer that has undergone color management. The pigmented inks used in Epson inkjet printers are light-resistant and retain their original color even in the kind of light conditions that would cause dye color inks used on the originals to fade.

  • Please note we cannot guarantee light resistance and durability when exposed to strong UV light outdoors, etc.

Not only do the ranges of color exceed those produced by the offset printing methods used for comic covers, but we are also able to achieve levels of light resistance and durability that even exceed those of the original pictures drawn on paper.
