Gmund, the paper company, was founded in 1829 on the shores of Lake Tegernsee in Bavaria, Germany. They still use a paper machine that dates to around 200 years old, the oldest in Europe in operation today.
SHUEISHA MANGA-ART HERITAGE was awarded the grand prize in the Gmund Award (category: Art), the award for the best design or creation on Gmund fine paper.

SHUEISHA MANGA-ART HERITAGE is the first cross-border e-commerce service launched by Shueisha starting in March 2021. In particular, ‘The Press’ series, the jewel in the crown of its offer, is printed with a large flatbed letterpress machine (a rare Heidelberg dating to the 1960s). We have printed black-and-white drawings of the following artists: Eiichiro Oda (ONE PIECE), Riyoko Ikeda (The Rose of Versailles), and Shin-ichi Sakamoto (Innocent Rouge). All artworks sold are registered with NFT blockchain sales certificates.

To launch The Press series, we tested numerous papers and finally discovered Gmund Cotton Max White, 100% cotton paper. Its surface is smooth and soft, enabling the unique texture of the engraved printing surface to beautifully appear when printed with the high pressure of the flatbed letterpress.
SHUEISHA MANGA-ART HERITAGE will shortly release collections from new artists and their artworks for The Press series.
