Keiichi Tanaami “Omoshiro Book” released by Shueisha Manga-Art Heritage.
Originally published in 1949, Omoshiro Book for Boys and Girls was Shueisha’s first magazine, and Soji Yamakawa’s “Boy King” was the featured title. A junior high school student at the time of the magazine's initial publication, Keiichi Tanaami said that on the day of its release every month, he would wait for the delivery truck and purchase a copy before it was placed on the shelves. He would take the magazine home while sniffing it and saying “Ah, what a nice smell,’ and fall asleep with it in his arms.
Seventy-five years after the launch of the first issue of the magazine, we are publishing a new Omoshiro Book featuring the artwork of Keiichi Tanaami and created under his artistic direction. An artist of worldwide acclaim, Tanaami was the original art director of Playboy Japan. He also created design work for multiple magazines and books published by Shueisha, including Myojo. This book is a compilation of works that Tanaami felt were interesting and fun, and he was involved not just in the design but also the planning of the volume
The book is printed in B4 size. It includes full-size reprints of Soji Yamakawa’s “Boy King” and Shigeru Sugiura's “Sarutobi Sasuke” series from the Omoshiro Book, which were originally printed in B5 format. Also featured is a new manga created by Yoshi Katta faithfully incorporating Fujio Akatsuka’s original characters from pervious manga. English text is included, allowing those who do not read Japanese to also be captivated by this gag-master’s magic.
