This touring exhibition features works that were unveiled at Benrido Collotype Gallery
(Kyoto) in November 2025.
In 2021, to commemorate the 1000th chapter of ONE PIECE, a global character popularity poll titled WORLD TOP100 was held. Hundred Views of Pirates is a newly drawn illustration by Eiichiro Oda, featuring the top-ranked characters from that poll. It was published across three issues of Weekly Shonen Jump (Issues 39–41, 2021). When the pages are connected horizontally, they form one expansive image.
To transform this monumental illustration into a fine art piece, special paper and printing techniques were selected.
Handcrafted Echizen washi paper
Founded in 1865 during the turbulent final years of the Edo period, the Iwano Heisaburo Paper Mill developed Kumohadamashi hemp paper, renowned for its suitability in painting. It became a favorite among artists such as Yokoyama Taikan. Now in its fourth generation, the mill continues to use traditional materials to produce sheets over 3 meters in length. It remains Japan’s only workshop specializing in large-format handmade washi.
Collotype printing
Collotype is one of the oldest practical photomechanical printing techniques, with a proven ability to preserve images for over a century. For this reason, photographs printed using collotype are still used today in restoration records of Kyoto’s temples and shrines.
Founded in 1887 during the Meiji era, Benrido remains the world’s only workshop capable of producing color collotype prints. Known for projects such as life-size reproductions of the murals in Hōryū-ji’s Golden Hall, Benrido was entrusted with the plate-making and printing of this work.
To enhance the impact of the piece, the original illustration was enlarged.
To faithfully reproduce the vivid colors of the pirates, each sheet required 23 printing plates—more than five times the number used in standard commercial printing. Across three sheets, a total of 69 plates were used, making this an unprecedented print production.
At the same time, Covers, a series of cover illustrations from ONE PIECE Comics volumes
printed on B4-size washi paper, will be on display for the first time in Tokyo.
The first exhibition and sale at Shueisha Manga-Art Heritage Tokyo Gallery will begin with 16 works.

In 1992, Oda received the Weekly Shonen Jump Tezuka Award for* Wanted!* Serialization of ONE PIECE began five years later in 1997. In the same year, the first tankobon (individual) volume of the series was released. In 1999, the title was made into an animated series. The first ONE PIECE exhibition was held in 2012.
In 1992, Oda received the 2nd place prize in the 44th Tezuka Award for Wanted! (under the pseudonym "Tsuki Himizu Kikondo"). In 1993, Oda was selected for the 104th Hop Step Award for Ikki Yako. In 2006, ONE PIECE was chosen in the Japanese Media Arts Festival 100 Manga Selection. In 2012, Oda received first prize in the 41st Japan Cartoonists Association Award for ONE PIECE. In 2018, Oda received the Kumamoto Prefecture Honorary Award.
